How to Store and handle Surfboards Safely
Surfboard handling and Storage is not that difficult, but there are a few DO's and DONT DO's. If you can manage it all you should prolong the life of all your surfboards. Numfish Surf & Scoot have put together some tips for you to consider. DO - Remember that surfboards are Fragile ! So take it slow going through doorways etc.. to not bang it on hard things. Especially when resting the tail on the ground. DO - Store in a cool, dry, shaded place. DO - Wrap the leash around the board/fins so it's not in the way, or better still remove the leash so it avoids tripping or getting caught which could inadvertently damage the board. DO - Be careful of fins so they don't get broken, or bent (in the case of softboard fins). DO - Get a board bag ! To minimise damage to fins and boards through hitting it on hard objects, or a leash getting caught on something and dragging the board into a damage causing situation. DONT - Store or throw other things on top of the board. DONT - leave it where the board can be superheated on sunny days, like in a car or tin sheds. This will reduce the strength and lifespan of any board, and with softboards can also cause expansion air bubbles to appear from under the surfaces. DONT - leave it in direct sun as this can superheat boards as well, even when they are in board bags. This will reduce the strength and lifespan of any board, and with softboards can also cause expansion air bubbles to appear from under the surfaces.
